WOMEN GO BEYOND Program
The MAS Women Go Beyond program aims to acknowledge and support the many roles that women play in their communities through focused initiatives:
- Career Advancement – Offering skills enhancement and training opportunities to encourage career progression
- Work-Life Balance Initiatives - Recognizing and supporting the many roles women play within the family and community
- Skill Development - Developing soft skills and non-job-related skills to promote a sense of security and independence
- Rewarding Excellence – Celebrating both professional and personal achievements at annual recognition event
In 2017, approximately 269,000 women in the MAS organization were impacted by 1,172 programs focused on these key areas.
Included as part of the Women Go Beyond initiative is Aloka - a special breast cancer awareness program providing MAS employees with ongoing education and support. Of all cancers, breast cancer is the most prevalent form of cancer in Sri Lankan women, accounting for 22 percent of all detected cancer cases. Lack of awareness about symptoms, treatment options and available medical care leads to high mortality rates. Because a majority of the MAS workforce is female, with many from rural villages and backgrounds where awareness is lacking, Aloka provides critical information on breast cancer detection, symptoms and treatment options. To date, more than 25,000 MAS employees have been impacted by the program’s education and awareness campaign, including many who have sought further medical attention to address concerns.
